Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a European Union regulation that updates and harmonises the framework for processing personal data in the EU, came into effect on May 25, 2018. As of this important date, our users and customers are increasingly focused on the real-world implications of the new European data protection framework.
At SeasonAbroad, we are GDPR Compliant! Based on customer feedback, we know you may be curious about this, and that is why we’ve decided to share these news with you.
The European Union has taken a monumental step in protecting the fundamental right to privacy for every EU resident with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Simply put, EU residents will now have greater say over what, how, why, where, and when their personal data is used, processed, or disposed. This rule clarifies how the EU personal data laws apply even beyond the borders of the EU. Any organisation that works with EU residents’ personal data in any manner, irrespective of location, has obligations to protect the data. SeasonAbroad is well aware of its role in providing the right tools and processes to support its users and customers meet their GDPR mandates.

HOW SEASONABROAD HAS BECOME GDPR COMPLIANT
Given our strong foundation, SeasonAbroad views being GDPR compliant as an incremental build on top of our existing practices and controls, rather than a revolution in the way we process personal data.
SeasonAbroad’s journey to compliance began as soon as the regulation was adopted in 2016.
We have evaluated our security and data protection practices and GDPR readiness levels. This involved performing a complete and detailed assessment of the GDPR and most recent accompanying guidance, determining what areas were applicable to SeasonAbroad, and then assessing if our past practices either met the requirements as described or needed iteration in order to fully meet the requirements.
We performed a complete and detailed evaluation of our personal data processing activities.
We have built on our existing internal processes and procedures to ensure we meet the accountability principles under the GDPR requirements. This is important as the GDPR places an increased focus on documenting decisions and practices affecting personal data.
Given our existing strong foundations in data protection and security practices, we are happy to be GDPR compliant.
